The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts that cold and dry weather will continue in Islamabad and its surroundings on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. Morning hours are expected to bring intense frost and biting cold.

For Monday night, Islamabad experienced a mix of cold and partly cloudy weather, adding to the wintry ambiance of the city. The prevailing conditions are attributed to continental air dominance over most parts of the country, along with a shallow westerly wave affecting Kashmir and adjoining regions.

Monday’s Weather

Most parts of the country, including Islamabad, saw cold and dry conditions, with hilly areas bearing the brunt of the chill. Light rain and snow were recorded in isolated parts of Kashmir and the northern hills. Meanwhile, smog and fog persisted in the plain regions of Punjab, upper Sindh, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with visibility affected during morning and night hours.

Tuesday’s Forecast

The PMD predicts mainly cold and dry weather across the country, including Islamabad, with hilly regions experiencing freezing temperatures during the morning and night. Frost is likely in Islamabad, Pothohar, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the early hours. Pockets of smog and fog are expected to continue in the plains of Punjab and upper Sindh.

In the past 24 hours, Islamabad witnessed cold and dry weather, similar to other regions. Light rain and drizzle were recorded in parts of northeastern Punjab, while areas like Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir received a dusting of snow.

The lowest recorded temperatures for today included Leh (-9°C), Skardu (-8°C), and Quetta (-5°C). Closer to Islamabad, frost affected areas like Murree and Pothohar, contributing to the winter marvel gripping the region.
