Islamabad, January 20, 2025 – The capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad, is expected to experience colder temperatures in the coming days after a series of recent showers.

According to the three-day weather forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the minimum temperatures in Islamabad are expected to dip from the current 4°C to a chilly 2°C over the next three days.

On Monday, January 20, 2025, Islamabad is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with drizzle and light rain, particularly in the evening and night. By Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the city will experience cold and partly cloudy weather, with temperatures continuing to drop. Residents of Islamabad are bracing themselves for a colder spell, as the city continues to see fluctuating weather patterns during the winter season.

At the national level, the PMD has issued a warning for moderate to heavy snowfall in various parts of the country, which could lead to road closures and slippery conditions in areas like Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, and Gilgit-Baltistan today. These areas are expected to see significant weather disruptions due to the ongoing westerly wave.

Synoptic Situation and Extended Forecast

The ongoing westerly wave is affecting the western and upper parts of the country and is expected to persist in these regions for the next 24 hours. On Monday, rain and windstorms, accompanied by snowfall in higher altitudes, are forecasted for northwest Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. In contrast, other parts of the country will experience cold and dry weather. Light to moderate fog is expected to persist in most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh during the morning and night hours.

On Tuesday, rain, along with snowfall in higher altitudes, is again expected in northwest Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The rest of the country will see cold and dry conditions. Additionally, light to moderate fog will continue to affect southern districts of Punjab and upper Sindh.

Recent Weather Conditions in Islamabad and Beyond

In the past 24 hours, cold and cloudy weather dominated most regions of Pakistan, with scattered rain and snow in areas of Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir. Islamabad, along with other parts of the country, has seen a mix of cold, cloudy conditions and intermittent showers. Additionally, light to moderate fog affected several areas, including the southern districts of Punjab.

Lowest Minimum Temperatures Recorded

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded in the past 24 hours include Leh at -08°C, Gupis at -06°C, and Skardu and Malam Jabba at -05°C. In Islamabad, the temperature is expected to hover around 2°C in the coming days, adding to the chilly atmosphere.

As Islamabad prepares for colder days ahead, the city’s residents are advised to stay warm and keep an eye on weather updates, particularly as the PMD forecasts more rain and cooler temperatures in the coming days.
