Islamabad, January 22, 2025 – Islamabad is preparing for a sharp drop in temperatures, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting freezing conditions in the next 72 hours.
The capital city of Pakistan is expected to experience its coldest spell of the season, with minimum temperatures falling to 0°C.
According to forecasting officer Abdul Shakoor at the PMD, Islamabad’s weather is expected to turn colder as a result of prevailing continental air and a westerly wave affecting the country’s western and upper regions. The PMD issued a fresh weather advisory at 17:30 PST, predicting cold and partly cloudy weather in Islamabad and surrounding areas on Wednesday night.
For Thursday, January 23, 2025, the PMD has forecast cold and dry conditions in Islamabad and nearby regions. Residents are advised to prepare for the freezing weather and remain cautious, particularly during nighttime when temperatures are expected to drop significantly.
On a national scale, the PMD reported that continental air dominates most parts of the country, while the westerly wave continues to impact some areas. This system is expected to bring light rain and occasional snowfall to isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly regions.
