Islamabad, August 25, 2025 – Residents of Islamabad can soon enjoy free WiFi at 30 strategic locations across the city, including commercial centres, public transport hubs, and parks.
The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Chairman CDA, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, on Monday.
The first phase of the project will focus on high-traffic areas, such as main commercial markets, metro and feeder bus stations, and recreational spots. Officials said that the free WiFi initiative will help citizens access digital services more easily and bridge communication gaps across the capital.
Chairman Randhawa emphasized that a sustainable operational and marketing model must be developed to ensure the project’s long-term success. He noted that revenue generated should be reinvested into maintaining and upgrading the WiFi infrastructure, guaranteeing uninterrupted, high-quality connectivity for users. “No effort should be spared to digitize Islamabad and make it a free WiFi city,” he added.
The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will manage the operation and maintenance of the WiFi system, while the CDA’s technical team will provide necessary support for smooth execution.
The initiative is part of a broader vision under Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and directives of Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, aiming to transform Islamabad into a technologically advanced capital. Senior officials from the CDA and NTC, including NTC Managing Director Major General (R) Ali Farhan, attended the session to ensure effective planning and implementation of the free WiFi project.
With these efforts, Islamabad is poised to become a model city for digital connectivity, offering citizens and visitors seamless access to the internet across key public spaces.
