Islamabad weather alert: Hot and dry conditions predicted for April 21

Pakistan Weather

ISLAMABAD, April 20, 2026 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather update for the federal capital, forecasting hot and dry weather for Tuesday, April 21, 2026. As a prevailing continental air mass settles over most parts of the country, residents of Islamabad and its suburbs are expected to face a significant rise in daytime temperatures.

According to the PMD’s latest bulletin, the dry spell began on Monday night and is set to intensify during the day on Tuesday. The synoptic situation indicates that continental air is currently the dominant atmospheric force across the region. Consequently, the PMD notes that hot and dry weather will likely persist in most of the country’s plain areas throughout the remainder of the week.

While the capital prepares for the heat, the northern regions have experienced slight relief. Over the past 24 hours, while the national landscape remained largely arid, localized rainfall was recorded in Gilgit-Baltistan, with Bagrote receiving 5mm and Bunji 3mm. However, these showers have done little to dampen the heat moving into the southern and central plains.

Recent temperature recordings highlight the intensity of the current heatwave in Sindh and surrounding regions. Cities such as Chhor, Dadu, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Padidan, Sukkur, and Tando Jam all recorded maximum temperatures of 42°C.

For those in Islamabad, the PMD advises taking precautions against the midday sun and staying hydrated. With the lack of significant cloud cover expected on Tuesday, the capital is set for a bright, parched day, marking a clear transition into the harsher summer conditions typical of late April.
