Islamabad, March 24, 2026 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds in Islamabad from March 24 through the end of the month, prompting authorities to issue alerts and step up emergency preparedness.
According to the PMD, the federal capital is likely to experience rain accompanied by wind and hailstorms on March 25 and 26. Another spell of rain is expected between March 28 and 30, raising concerns about urban flooding and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas.
In response, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), along with the district administration, has implemented comprehensive contingency measures to handle any emergency situation during the forecast period. Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert.
Joint teams of CDA, the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration will be deployed across the city to assist residents. Emergency and rescue units have also been mobilized to ensure rapid response.
Authorities have been instructed to closely monitor key infrastructure, including major roads, drainage systems, underpasses, and water channels. Special drainage arrangements have been put in place at vulnerable locations to prevent water accumulation and maintain traffic flow.
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and follow safety precautions. The administration has assured that helplines will remain active for timely assistance.
Officials say these proactive measures aim to ensure public safety and minimize disruption to daily life during the upcoming weather spell.
