Weather Forecast Thundershowers

Islamabad, October 5, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its weather forecast for Islamabad and surrounding areas for Sunday, October 6, 2024. According to the PMD, the capital city is expected to experience partly cloudy weather during the day, with a chance of rain, windstorms, or thunderstorms in isolated areas during the night. The probability of rain or thunderstorms occurring stands at 35%.

For the rest of Pakistan, the PMD forecasts mainly hot and dry conditions across most regions on Sunday. However, the possibility of scattered rain or thunderstorms exists in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, the Potohar region, South and Northeast Balochistan, and parts of Kashmir during the night.

Synoptic Situation:

The PMD stated that the prevailing weather patterns are influenced by continental air over much of the country. However, a shallow westerly wave is expected to approach the western and northern parts of Pakistan starting on Saturday, which could lead to some instability and localized weather changes, particularly in the northern regions.

Islamabad Outlook:

For Islamabad, Sunday’s weather is expected to be relatively mild compared to other regions, with a mix of clouds and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms during the night. This follows a mostly hot and dry Saturday, with little change expected until evening. The night rain will bring some respite from the otherwise dry conditions.

National Overview:

On a broader scale, much of Pakistan will continue to experience hot and dry weather. The PMD noted that the hottest regions are likely to include Nokkundi, Turbat, Padidan, and Dadu, where maximum temperatures are forecasted to reach 40-41°C. These areas are expected to maintain the trend of scorching weather.

Weather on October 5, 2024:

Saturday’s weather saw similar conditions, with most regions experiencing dry and hot weather. However, some northern and upper areas of Pakistan, such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, and Northeast Punjab, witnessed isolated rainfall and thunderstorms. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar recorded 25 mm of rainfall, while Attock in Punjab saw 6 mm of rain.

Recorded Temperatures:

As of October 5, 2024, the highest temperatures recorded were in Nokkundi at 41°C, and Turbat, Padidan, and Dadu at 40°C. These temperatures indicate that much of Pakistan is still experiencing very warm conditions, with little relief from cooler temperatures except in northern regions where some rain has fallen.

As Islamabad prepares for a partly cloudy day with a chance of nighttime thunderstorms, the rest of the country remains mostly dry and hot, typical of early October.
