Islamabad, December 21, 2025 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rainy and cold weather for Islamabad and nearby areas on Monday, December 22, 2025, as a westerly weather system continues to affect large parts of the country.

According to the PMD, Sunday will remain cold and cloudy in Islamabad, with intermittent rain expected at intervals. On Monday, similar conditions are likely to persist, with cold and cloudy weather accompanied by a chance of rain during the daytime in the federal capital and surrounding regions.

At the national level, the PMD reported that a westerly wave is currently influencing the western and upper parts of Pakistan, triggering rainfall, gusty winds, and snowfall over mountainous areas.

For Sunday, intermittent rain with winds and snowfall over hills is expected in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, northern and western Balochistan, and the Potohar region. Other parts of the country are likely to experience cold and partly cloudy conditions, while fog and smog may persist in eastern Punjab and upper Sindh.

On Monday, rain and wind, along with snowfall over mountains, are forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Cold and partly cloudy weather is expected elsewhere, with fog and smog continuing in eastern Punjab and upper Sindh. The PMD has also warned that landslides and snowfall may cause road closures and slippery conditions in hilly areas, including Murree, Galiyat, Swat, Kaghan, Hunza, Skardu, and Neelum Valley.

During the past 24 hours, cold and partly cloudy weather prevailed across most parts of the country, while rain was recorded at isolated locations in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Dense fog was reported in northeastern Punjab, and the lowest minimum temperatures were recorded at Leh and Gupis (-2°C).
