PMD forecasts a 35% chance of morning showers and thunderstorms in Islamabad on Saturday as a shallow westerly wave approaches northern Pakistan.
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, wind and thunderstorms in Islamabad and surrounding areas on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with a 35% probability of showers during the morning.
According to the PMD, hot and humid weather is expected in Islamabad and adjoining areas on Saturday. However, rain, wind and thunderstorms are likely during the morning.
For Friday, hot and humid conditions are expected in Islamabad and surrounding areas, while partly cloudy weather is likely during the night.
Synoptic situation
The PMD said continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country, while a shallow trough of a westerly wave was approaching the upper parts of the country from Friday night.
The approaching weather system could trigger isolated rain and thunderstorms in several northern and northeastern areas.

Mainly hot and humid weather is expected over most plain areas of the country.
However, partly cloudy conditions are likely in northern areas, with isolated chances of rain and thunderstorms in Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during the evening and night.
Pakistan weather forecast for Saturday
Mainly hot and humid weather is expected over most plain areas of the country on Saturday.
However, isolated rain, wind and thunderstorms are likely in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, the Pothohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Islamabad and adjoining areas are also likely to experience showers or thunderstorms during the morning, according to the PMD.
Weather during the past 24 hours
The PMD said mainly hot and humid weather prevailed over most plain areas of the country, while northern areas experienced partly cloudy conditions.
The highest maximum temperatures recorded yesterday were 45°C in Nokkundi, 44°C in Dalbandin and 43°C in Sibbi.
The latest forecast indicates that hot and humid conditions will continue across much of Pakistan, although isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in parts of the north as the westerly weather system approaches.
