Islamabad weather: Heavy rainfall expected September 15–16

Weather Forecast Thundershowers

Islamabad, September 15, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert predicting heavy rainfall in Islamabad and its surrounding areas over the next two days.

The weather forecast highlights the possibility of rain-wind and thunderstorms, along with chances of intense downpours that may impact daily life in the capital.

For Islamabad, Monday’s forecast suggests partly cloudy skies with a 55% probability of rain and thunderstorms during the evening and night. On Tuesday, conditions are expected to intensify, with a 70% probability of rain accompanied by heavy rainfall in some areas, raising concerns for urban flooding and traffic disruptions.

At the national level, the PMD has warned of potential risks linked to the current weather system. Strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning may damage fragile structures such as electric poles, billboards, and rooftops of kacha houses. The department also cautioned about landslides in vulnerable hilly areas, including Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir. Citizens, travelers, and tourists have been advised to remain cautious and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.

The synoptic situation indicates that moist currents are entering from the Arabian Sea, while a westerly wave is influencing the upper parts of Pakistan. This combination is fueling unstable atmospheric conditions, especially in the northern and northeastern regions.

During the past 24 hours, hot and dry conditions dominated most areas, though scattered rain was reported in Kashmir and Murree. Recorded rainfall included 6 mm at Muzaffarabad City, 4 mm at Muzaffarabad Airport, and 1 mm in Murree. Maximum temperatures reached 42°C in Nokkundi and Dalbandin, while Bhakkar and Chilas recorded 41°C.
