Islamabad, July 22, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an updated weather forecast for Islamabad, warning of potential heavy rainfall and storm-related hazards over the next 24 hours.
According to the PMD, Islamabad is expected to experience rain-wind/thundershower activity from Tuesday night through Wednesday. Isolated heavyfalls are also likely during this period, which may bring relief from the heat but could pose risks of flash flooding in low-lying areas.
Forecast Details for Islamabad:
• Tuesday (Night): Rain-wind/thundershower expected in Islamabad and surrounding areas. Heavyfalls may accompany the showers.
• Wednesday: Partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thundershower. Intense downpours are again expected at times.
The PMD has warned that the ongoing weather system could generate flash floods in local nullahs and streams, especially in hilly and urban areas. Islamabad/Rawalpindi, along with other parts of northeast Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are particularly vulnerable. Low-lying zones in the twin cities face urban flood risk due to potential cloudbursts.
National Weather Outlook:
A seasonal low lies over north Balochistan, while moist currents from the Arabian Sea are entering the upper parts of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave is affecting northern Pakistan, further intensifying the weather system.
On both Tuesday and Wednesday, rain-wind/thundershower is forecast across Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, northeast Balochistan, and Islamabad. Very heavy rainfall is possible in the Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Past 24-Hour Weather Summary:
Widespread rain and thundershowers occurred in Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Kashmir, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kalat. Saidpur received 101 mm of rain, while other areas like Golra (78 mm), Bokra (68 mm), and Zero Point (35 mm) also saw significant rainfall. Rawalpindi’s Katcheri recorded 85 mm.
