Islamabad, June 7, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather update for Islamabad, warning of extremely hot and dry conditions for Sunday, June 8, 2025. The capital city is expected to experience intense daytime heat, with temperatures climbing significantly above seasonal averages.
According to the PMD forecast, Islamabad will witness very hot and dry weather on Sunday, with minimal cloud cover offering little relief. This spike in temperature is part of a larger national trend, as the country braces for a severe heatwave expected to intensify over the coming days, including during the Eid holidays.
Saturday night (June 7) in Islamabad may bring some brief respite, as the weather forecast suggests a 40% probability of partly cloudy skies accompanied by dust or thunderstorm-rain at isolated locations. However, these chances are limited and unlikely to significantly impact the dominant hot conditions.
This prolonged period of high temperatures is linked to prevailing continental air and a persistent high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. The synoptic situation also notes a shallow westerly trough affecting upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and surrounding areas, though its influence over Islamabad remains limited.
Nationwide, the PMD has highlighted a concerning rise in day temperatures, with readings expected to remain 5 to 7°C above normal in the northern and central regions, including Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Meanwhile, southern parts of the country, such as Sindh and Balochistan, will also see temperatures 4 to 6°C higher than usual.
Islamabad’s weather outlook for the coming week suggests the heatwave will persist, making it essential for residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and take necessary precautions, especially during peak afternoon hours.
In the last 24 hours, most of the country experienced hot and dry conditions, with areas like Sibbi recording a blistering 49°C, followed by Dadu at 48°C. While Islamabad did not report any rainfall, the heat is expected to intensify further, reinforcing the urgent need for weather awareness and safety measures in the days ahead.
