Islamabad, January 8, 2026 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory forecasting frost in Islamabad on Friday, January 9, 2026, as cold and dry conditions continue to grip the federal capital and surrounding areas.
According to the PMD, Thursday is expected to remain cold and dry in Islamabad and nearby regions, with frost likely to develop at isolated locations during the early morning hours. On Friday, similar weather conditions are forecast, with an increased likelihood of frost during the morning. In addition, patchy fog may form during morning and nighttime hours, potentially affecting visibility.
At the national level, the PMD stated that continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country, contributing to persistently cold conditions. On Thursday, cold and dry weather is expected across much of Pakistan, while very cold conditions will dominate hilly areas. Moderate to dense fog is likely to persist over Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The outlook for Friday remains unchanged, with cold and dry weather nationwide and very cold conditions in northern and mountainous regions. Frost is likely at isolated locations in the Pothohar region and Kashmir, particularly during the morning hours, while fog may continue to affect low-lying areas.
During the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed across most regions, with very cold conditions in hilly areas. Light rainfall of 1 mm was recorded in Ormara and Pasni. Fog remained widespread in parts of Punjab, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, while frost was observed at isolated locations in Pothohar and Kashmir.
The lowest temperatures recorded included Leh at -15°C, Skardu at -10°C, and Kalat at -8°C, highlighting the severity of the ongoing cold spell.
