Islamabad weather update June 3: Thunderstorm likely in evening

Weather Forecast Thundershowers

Islamabad, June 2, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a possible thunderstorm in Islamabad on Tuesday, June 3, bringing a slight break from the persistent hot and dry weather conditions.

According to the latest advisory, the day is expected to remain largely sunny, hot, and dry, but the evening and night may witness partly cloudy skies accompanied by rain, wind, and a thunderstorm, with a 45% chance of precipitation.

While the day will begin with scorching temperatures and dry air dominating Islamabad and its surrounding areas, weather experts are predicting a shift by the evening due to changing atmospheric conditions. A shallow westerly wave currently influencing northern parts of the country could bring localized thunderstorms to the region, offering some respite from the oppressive heat.

As per Monday’s observations, June 2, Islamabad experienced another day of hot and dry weather. The temperature remained high, reflecting the dominant continental air mass covering most parts of Pakistan. The national weather on Monday was mostly hot and dry across the plains, while a few areas in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir experienced isolated rain and thunderstorms during the night.

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s broader forecast, the PMD expects mainly hot and dry conditions to persist in most parts of the country, especially in the plain regions such as Sindh and southern Punjab, where very high temperatures are likely. However, in addition to Islamabad, isolated areas in northeastern Punjab, the Potohar region, and northern areas may receive thunderstorm activity, potentially coupled with gusty winds and light showers.

In the past 24 hours, the country remained largely under hot and dry conditions, with the highest recorded temperatures hitting 47°C in Jacobabad and Turbat, and 46°C in Dadu. Only Rawalakot recorded measurable rainfall, registering 4mm.

Residents of Islamabad are advised to stay updated with the latest weather reports and take precautions, especially in the evening hours when a thunderstorm could affect outdoor activities and travel plans.
