Islamabad, December 31, 2025 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast for Islamabad, predicting cold and cloudy conditions with the likelihood of rain, wind, and a thunderstorm on January 1, 2026, particularly during the morning hours.
According to the PMD, a westerly wave is currently influencing western, upper, and central parts of the country and is expected to persist in upper regions until January 1. As a result, Islamabad and its surrounding areas are likely to experience unsettled weather, with intermittent rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and possible thunderstorms.
For Wednesday, the PMD forecasts cold and cloudy weather in Islamabad, with rain and thunderstorm activity expected. The department has also issued a weather alert warning that snowfall in northern and hilly regions may lead to slippery roads and temporary closures in areas including Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli from today through January 1.
Authorities have further cautioned about the risk of landslides and avalanches in hilly parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir during this period. Meanwhile, fog conditions are expected to ease in central and southern Punjab as well as upper Sindh during the ongoing wet spell.
On a national scale, rain with wind and thunderstorms—along with snowfall over hills—is expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Islamabad on Wednesday. By Thursday, similar conditions are forecast for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, and Islamabad, while most other areas are likely to remain cold and dry.
During the past 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms were reported at scattered locations across Sindh, Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and southern Punjab, while cold and partly cloudy weather prevailed elsewhere in the country. The lowest recorded temperatures included Leh at minus six degrees Celsius, Gupis at minus two, and Parachinar at minus one.
Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
