Italy have officially unveiled their 15-member squad for their historic debut in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, marking a major milestone for the European cricketing nation.
The Azzurri will begin their maiden T20 World Cup campaign against Bangladesh on February 9 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Their second group-stage fixture is scheduled against Nepal on February 12 in Mumbai.
Experienced campaigner Wayne Madsen, as previously confirmed, will captain Italy during the global event, bringing leadership and stability to the side.

The standout inclusion is all-rounder JJ Smuts, who has represented South Africa at the international level and featured in 13 T20Is. His presence adds valuable experience and depth to Italy’s lineup. However, batter Emilio Gay has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
Italy secured qualification through an impressive campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier 2025, finishing second after notable victories over Scotland and Guernsey. They qualified alongside the Netherlands.
The team’s coaching setup will be led by head coach John Davison, with Kevin O’Brien and Douglas Brown serving as assistant coaches. Peter Di Venuto has been appointed as team manager.
Italy have been placed in Group C alongside two-time champions England and West Indies, as well as Bangladesh and Nepal, setting up an exciting challenge for the tournament debutants.
