During the filming of the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine, a touching moment unfolded when Hugh Jackman first donned Wolverine’s classic yellow and blue suit.

This marked a major departure from his previous 17-year portrayal of the character, where he never wore the comics-accurate costume.

Executive Producer Wendy Jacobson revealed to HeyUGuys that the emotional weight of this scene was palpable. Before filming officially began, a camera test featured Jackman and Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds in full costume. Jacobson described the profound impact of Jackman appearing in the iconic suit, noting that it brought many adult men on set to tears.

In a recent Variety cover story about Deadpool & Wolverine, Jackman reflected on the evolution of Wolverine’s costume throughout the X-Men franchise. He reminisced about the early days of the franchise in 1999 when black leather was the standard attire for characters, which shaped his portrayal of Wolverine.

Jackman admitted his surprise and satisfaction at finally wearing the yellow suit, stating, “As soon as I put [the yellow suit] on, I couldn’t believe I never had before.” His sentiments were echoed by Reynolds, who underscored the importance of Wolverine’s classic look for their upcoming Marvel collaboration.

Director Shawn Levy disclosed that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was instrumental in the decision to incorporate the yellow suit into Jackman’s return as Wolverine following his last appearance in Logan (2017). Levy recounted Marvel’s enthusiastic reaction to the proposal.

Feige emphasized the significance of Wolverine’s character beyond his costume, likening Jackman’s previous tenure to “being Superman in 10 movies and never wearing the Superman costume.” He praised the character’s enduring appeal and depth, underscoring how Wolverine’s impact in cinematic storytelling transcends his iconic attire.
