Australian recall affects 171 Jaecoo J7 SUVs built between 2025 and 2026 due to a wiring harness issue that could lead to unexpected engine shutdown.
Australia has announced a new recall for selected Jaecoo J7 mid-size SUVs after a manufacturing defect was identified that could cause the vehicle to suddenly lose power while driving.
The safety campaign affects 171 vehicles manufactured between 2025 and 2026 and urges owners to arrange a free inspection and repair through authorized dealerships.
According to the recall notice, the issue involves the wiring harness located beneath the front seats. Due to a manufacturing defect, the wiring harness may rub against the front seat cross beam bracket over time.
Continuous contact could damage the wiring, increasing the likelihood of an unexpected loss of motive power or complete engine shutdown without prior warning.
The defect poses a significant road safety concern because a vehicle that suddenly loses power while in motion may become difficult to control.
Authorities warned that an unexpected engine shutdown could increase the risk of a traffic accident, potentially resulting in injuries or fatalities involving vehicle occupants as well as other road users.
Owners of affected Jaecoo J7 vehicles have been advised to contact their nearest Omoda Jaecoo dealership to schedule an appointment.
Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and carry out the necessary repairs at no cost to customers. Vehicle owners can also verify whether their SUV is included in the recall by checking the official Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list released with the recall notice.
This marks the second recall involving the Jaecoo J7 in Australia. Earlier this year, Chery Motor Australia issued a similar safety recall covering 1,028 units of the SUV produced during 2025.
That campaign was linked to a defect in the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) wiring harness, which could chafe against the engine mounting bracket and become damaged.
The previous wiring issue also carried the risk of sudden engine shutdown or loss of motive power without warning, prompting the company to launch a nationwide inspection and repair program.
While the latest recall involves a different section of the vehicle’s wiring system, both recalls highlight the importance of addressing potential electrical harness wear before it affects vehicle safety.
Jaecoo J7 owners are encouraged to respond promptly to the recall notification and have their vehicles inspected to minimize the risk of unexpected power loss and ensure safe operation on the road.
