James Gunn Confirms Batman, Wonder Woman Still DC Priorities

Entertainment World

DC Studios CEO James Gunn has finally addressed growing concerns about the future of Batman within the DC Universe (DCU), reassuring fans that the character remains a central focus moving forward.

Since James Gunn took the helm at DC Studios, fans have been uncertain about the status of two major Batman projects—Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II and the upcoming DCU reboot The Brave and the Bold. Both films have faced delays, sparking rumors and skepticism about whether they would move forward at all.

However, James Gunn, 58, clarified in a recent interview with Rolling Stone that neither film has been scrapped. Instead, delays are largely due to current focus on other DC projects, especially the upcoming Superman film. Still, he emphasized that Batman remains a major priority.

“Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally,” Gunn said. “And it’s not – I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman.”

Gunn, known for directing Guardians of the Galaxy, also acknowledged that he is juggling multiple projects beyond Batman and Wonder Woman. However, he made it clear that both heroes are at the forefront of DC Studios’ roadmap.

Importantly, James Gunn confirmed that the upcoming DCU Batman film is still titled The Brave and the Bold, laying to rest speculation about a name change or cancellation.

Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, which follows Robert Pattinson’s noir-inspired Dark Knight, remains part of DC’s “Elseworlds” label—stories that exist outside the main continuity of the DCU.

With James Gunn’s vision now shaping the future of the franchise, fans can rest assured that DC’s most iconic heroes—Batman and Wonder Woman—will be receiving the attention they deserve in the years to come.
