Jason Momoa has left fans stunned — and laughing — after shaving off his iconic beard for the first time in six years.

The Aquaman star documented the surprising transformation in a video posted to Instagram, where he was seen buzzing off his signature facial hair while speaking directly to fans.

“Haven’t shaved in six years, and here we are again,” Momoa captioned the video. However, the instant regret was visible as he stared at his freshly shaved face, exclaiming, “Goddammit, I hate it!” The humorous reaction delighted followers, with one commenting, “Your reaction to shaving is HILARIOUS,” and another joking, “That beard came off and gave us somebody entirely different.”

But the unexpected shave had a purpose. Momoa revealed that the gesture was tied to his environmental mission with Mananalu, the water brand he launched in 2019. “I launched @mananalu to help eliminate single-use plastic,” Momoa explained to his nearly 17 million followers. He went on to announce a new partnership with @Getboomerangwater to create a closed-loop system that bottles and sanitizes water onsite — dramatically reducing waste and carbon emissions.

“This is the future,” Momoa said. “And we’re starting in Hawai’i.”

Reflecting on his journey, Momoa said, “I think it’s been six years since I did Dune. That’s when I started growing the beard and launched Mananalu. Now airports are banning single-use plastic. These positive things are happening.”

Calling the beard shave a “kickoff,” Momoa encouraged fans to join the movement to protect the planet. “Let’s get rid of single-use plastic. For our children and our planet.”

Fans responded with love and admiration. “With or without the beard, you’re beautiful,” one wrote. Another added, “Thanks for using your platform for good.”
