Islamabad, October 9, 2024 – Jazz, Pakistan’s leading telecom operator, has announced plans to fully phase out its 3G services by November 2024, making it the first in the country to take this transformative step. The move is part of Jazz’s ambitious “4G for All” initiative, aimed at driving high-speed mobile broadband connectivity across Pakistan.
This strategic transition will enable Jazz to repurpose the 3G spectrum, allowing for significant enhancements to its 4G network. The reallocation of resources will bolster 4G coverage, increase data speeds, and improve overall network capacity, reinforcing Jazz’s position at the forefront of the nation’s telecom industry.
Jazz has stated that this shift will not only elevate its service offerings but also contribute to Pakistan’s broader objectives of digital transformation and economic growth by strengthening the country’s communication infrastructure. The retirement of the 3G network is a key milestone in Jazz’s effort to enhance connectivity and foster digital innovation.
Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, emphasized the importance of this decision, noting, “Sunsetting our 3G services highlights our unwavering commitment to providing a world-class digital experience. Our ‘4G for All’ vision is central to empowering individuals and businesses throughout Pakistan in an increasingly digital world.” He added that this transition is part of Jazz’s evolution toward becoming a comprehensive Service Company (Service Co), focusing on digital solutions that expand access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and financial services.
With over 71 million cellular users and 51 million mobile broadband customers, Jazz remains Pakistan’s largest telecom operator. The shift to an exclusively 4G-enabled network is expected to significantly enhance mobile internet speeds, improve call quality, and better meet the dynamic needs of its growing customer base.
As the telecom industry moves towards more advanced technologies, Jazz’s decision to phase out 3G underscores the company’s commitment to keeping pace with global trends in digital connectivity. By focusing on 4G technology, Jazz is positioned to deliver innovative digital solutions that will shape the future of communication in Pakistan, ensuring a more connected and digitally empowered society.
