Actress Jenna Ortega has revealed that she once aspired to pursue a career in politics before rising to prominence in the entertainment industry.
Speaking on a recent episode of the podcast hosted by Kid Cudi, Ortega said her early interest in politics began during the presidency of Barack Obama.
Ortega recalled that at the age of six, she was deeply inspired by Obama’s inauguration and even attempted to contact him by writing letters to the White House. “I would write him letters, ‘Hey, love your work. Can I come to the White House?’” she said, noting that she never received a reply.
Reflecting on her childhood ambitions, Ortega said she initially viewed her admiration as a form of youthful fascination, but later realised her interest was more career-driven. “I used to think it was like a crush of some sorts, but I just wanted his job,” she added, explaining her desire to one day work in the Oval Office.
In her efforts to connect with the former president, Ortega said she also reached out to media personality Oprah Winfrey after seeing a photograph of her with Obama. Ortega joked that she wrote to Winfrey in hopes of establishing a connection when her earlier attempts went unanswered.
Although Ortega ultimately pursued acting, she said her early fascination with politics played a role in shaping her ambitions and curiosity about leadership and public service.
Ortega has since built a successful career in Hollywood, but her remarks offered a glimpse into an alternative path she once seriously considered.
