Los Angeles — Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence has candidly shared a deeply personal and troubling reason behind her growing fear of dogs, revealing how a frightening incident involving her young son changed her perspective entirely.
The Oscar-winning actress, who is a mother of two, admitted she is no longer willing to take the risk of owning a dog after one bit her son, Cy. Speaking during a screening of her new film Die My Love on January 7, Lawrence explained that her feelings toward dogs shifted dramatically after becoming a parent.
Lawrence revealed that she had already considered rehoming her beloved dog, Princess Pippi Longstocking, whom she adopted in 2017, once she started a family. “It’s almost like I don’t recognize dogs right now,” she said. “I just see them as a potential threat.”
The Hunger Games star described how the incident left her emotionally shaken, admitting it triggered an intense protective response. While reflecting on the moment, Lawrence acknowledged how deeply it affected her sense of safety as a mother.
Following the experience, Lawrence said she has since become a cat owner and now finds comfort in her pet cat, Fred, whom she praised for his playful and humorous personality. She also defended cats against common criticism, noting that their misunderstood nature is part of their charm.
“They’re so misunderstood,” she explained, adding that people who dislike cats often miss what makes them entertaining and unique.
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting Die My Love, a psychological drama in which she stars opposite Robert Pattinson. The film explores a woman’s intense emotional struggle, touching on themes of postpartum depression and psychosis amid suspicions of marital betrayal.
Die My Love is currently showing in theaters.
