Jennifer Lopez is opening up about the emotional journey of her split from Ben Affleck, describing it as a life-changing experience. In a candid interview on the September 28 episode of CBS News Sunday Morning, the multi-talented star said her divorce was ultimately “the best thing that ever happened to me.”

“Because it changed me,” Lopez shared. “It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow.” The pair officially finalized their divorce in January this year, coinciding with the premiere of Lopez’s latest project, Kiss of the Spider Woman, which debuted at Sundance with Affleck as executive producer.

The On the Floor hitmaker admitted the timing was emotionally difficult, as her professional achievements clashed with turmoil in her personal life. “It was a really tough time. Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy, and then back home, it was not great,” she recalled.

Lopez, now 56, and Affleck, 53, share a long history. They first began dating in 2002, before separating in 2004. Nearly two decades later, they rekindled their romance in 2021, marrying the following year. However, the relationship came to an end once again when Lopez filed for divorce in 2024, citing irreconcilable differences.

Despite the heartbreak, Lopez emphasized that the end of her marriage gave her strength, perspective, and a renewed sense of independence.
