Superstar Jennifer Lopez is opening up about her complete transformation for her new film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, describing how the role reshaped not only her appearance but her entire persona.
During her October 15 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the 56-year-old actress discussed the bold creative decision to go platinum blonde for the role—a look she initially resisted. Stern praised both her performance and her striking new hair color, telling her, “I like you as a platinum blonde.”
Lopez admitted she was hesitant about the change at first. “It was so different,” she said. “I’d never had platinum blonde hair before, and I was worried because it never looked good on my skin tone. It always looked terrible.”
To achieve the perfect look, Lopez’s longtime makeup artist Scott Barnes customized her entire beauty palette—adjusting her foundation, lipstick, and even the undertones of her skin makeup. “Scott said, ‘I know how to do it. We’re going to make it beautiful,’” Lopez shared. “I had to put more pink in my foundation. Everything needed to shift.”
But for Lopez, the transformation went deeper than hair and makeup. “Everything changed,” she revealed. “I turned into a different person—my hands moved differently, my body was different, even the colors I wore changed.”
In the film, a modern screen adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical, Jennifer Lopez plays Ingrid Luna, a glamorous fictional movie star imagined by two prisoners in a South American jail who find solace in fantasies of her films.
While Lopez has since returned to her natural look, she continues to embrace the film’s high-fashion aesthetic. Earlier this month, she stunned fans in a Harris Reed demi-couture gown featuring a dramatic spider-like corset—an homage to her powerful new role.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is now playing in theaters worldwide.
