Jennifer Lopez has revealed that actor and writer Brett Goldstein was so committed to casting her in the upcoming film Office Romance that he was prepared to abandon the project if she declined the role.

Speaking on SiriusXM’s BPM in an episode released on April 18, Lopez discussed her involvement in the romantic comedy, in which she plays Jackie Cruz. The 56-year-old singer and actress said the role was specifically written with her in mind.

“They sent me the script and they were like, ‘We wrote this for you. If you don’t do it, we’re not even making the movie,’” Lopez said, referring to Goldstein and co-writer Joe Kelly.

Lopez added that Goldstein, known for his role in Ted Lasso, was deeply invested in the project from the outset. “It was really funny and me and my partner — Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, my producing partner — really loved it,” she said.

The film’s ensemble cast includes Edward James Olmos, Tony Hale, Natalie Ortega, Jackie Sandler, Bradley Whitford, Amy Sedaris and Rick Hoffman, among others.

According to the official synopsis, Lopez’s character Jackie Cruz is the president and CEO of Air Cruz, a high-powered executive who enforces a strict anti-fraternisation policy in her company. Her professional boundaries are tested when a new sharp-tongued lawyer joins the firm, creating unexpected complications.

Lopez said she is “glad” she took on the role and expressed excitement for audiences to see the finished film.

“I’m really excited for people to see it,” she said.

Office Romance is scheduled for release on Netflix on June 5, 2026.
