After appearing in It Ends With Us, Jenny Slate says she has emerged with renewed confidence, gratitude, and hope in herself as a dramatic performer. The 43-year-old actress opened up about the experience during a recent interview with Deadline at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, reflecting on how the film positively reshaped her outlook on acting.
The movie, which stars Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar, and Justin Baldoni, proved to be a meaningful turning point for Slate. Speaking candidly, she explained that the project helped her reconnect with a unique blend of traits within her personality.
“I think what I found in myself during this shoot was renewed gratitude for the combination in my personality that is shyness and hopefulness,” Slate said, adding that this mix often transforms into a “strange, gregariousness” that feels deeply fulfilling. “It just feels so good to be that way,” she shared.
Slate also revealed that the experience strengthened her belief in her own abilities. “I think I also upped my confidence or my sense of legitimacy and the value of myself as a dramatic performer,” she noted.
Looking ahead, the actress is set to star in the upcoming romantic drama Rachel Lambert, where she plays Rebecca, a woman who reconnects with a former high school love. Slate admitted she differs significantly from her character, describing Rebecca as far more still and patient than herself.
Despite their differences, Slate said she relates to one core element. “I want love and a partner, and I hold onto love,” she said—an emotional thread that continues to shape her performances.
