Delegation reviews feasibility, infrastructure requirements and operational integration for automated baggage handling project
Japan International Cooperation Agency officials visited Multan International Airport to assess plans for installing a modern Baggage Handling System (BHS), a project intended to improve operational efficiency and enhance passenger services.
Meetings and site inspection
During the visit, the JICA delegation held coordination meetings with Pakistan Airports Authority officials and the airport management team to review the project’s operational requirements, technical specifications and overall feasibility.
Discussions focused on evaluating existing baggage management procedures and identifying the infrastructure needed to support an automated handling system. Officials also examined how the new system could be integrated with current airport operations.
After the meetings, the delegation conducted a detailed inspection of proposed project sites across the airport, including the international baggage section and other operational areas, to assess available infrastructure and determine installation requirements.
What the proposed BHS is expected to improve
- Higher baggage processing capacity
- Reduced baggage handling times
- Improved passenger experience at Multan International Airport
- Broader cooperation
Airport officials said the proposed Baggage Handling System is expected to significantly improve baggage processing capacity, reduce handling times and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers using Multan International Airport.
Representatives from the Pakistan Airports Authority, the Airport Security Force and other relevant airport departments accompanied the delegation and provided technical briefings on airport operations and existing facilities.
The visit reflects ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and Japan in airport infrastructure modernisation and efforts to improve service standards at key airports across the country.
