Dhaka, August 23, 2025 – Bangladesh has announced its 15-member squad for the much-anticipated ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, with star batter and wicketkeeper Nigar Sultana Joty set to lead the side once again.

This will be Bangladesh’s second appearance in the prestigious tournament, following their debut in 2022, where Joty had also captained the team.

The announcement marks another milestone in Joty’s leadership journey, as she expressed confidence in her squad’s preparation and potential. “We have learned a lot from our first World Cup experience. This time, our aim is to play fearless cricket, stay consistent, and prove that Bangladesh can compete with the best,” Joty said after the team’s unveiling.

The squad features a mix of experienced campaigners and promising newcomers. Notably, wicketkeeper-batter Rubya Haider has earned her maiden ODI call-up after playing six T20Is for Bangladesh. Young talents Nishita Akter Nishi and Sumaiya Akter, who both impressed in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, have also been included. Chief selector Sazzad Ahmed Mansur praised their composure, consistency, and fielding standards, highlighting their potential to strengthen Bangladesh’s middle order and spin attack.

Sumaiya brings valuable top-order stability, having made her ODI debut against Australia in 2024, while Nishita has already featured in two ODIs since her debut against Pakistan in 2023. The chief selector noted that Nishita’s ability to maintain composure under pressure and contain left-handed batters gives her a crucial edge in competitive matches.

Bangladesh will begin their campaign against Pakistan on October 2 in Colombo, following two warm-up matches against South Africa and Sri Lanka on September 25 and 27 respectively. Having secured their place in the eight-team tournament through strong performances in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, the team is determined to make a bigger impact this year.

With a balanced squad, young talent, and experienced leadership at the helm, Bangladesh aims to showcase their progress on the world stage – and under Joty’s guidance, hopes are high for a breakthrough performance.
