Actor and filmmaker Justin Baldoni has officially requested a judge to dismiss Blake Lively’s high-profile lawsuit against him, calling the case baseless and unsupported by evidence.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six, the 41-year-old “Jane the Virgin” star filed a motion asserting that “no reasonable jury” would find him liable in the trial scheduled for March 2026.
Baldoni argues that Lively, 38, has “no factual or legal basis” for her allegations of sexual harassment, retaliation, defamation, and conspiracy. He further claims that Lively was “an independent contractor, not an employee,” and therefore her contract violation claims are invalid.
The actor also challenged the damages claimed by Lively, calling them “speculative and unprovable.” Lively’s lawsuit alleges that Baldoni’s alleged misconduct caused $161 million in total damages, including:
| Category | Alleged Damages (USD) |
| Lost career earnings & endorsements | $56.2 million |
| Damage to haircare brand Blake Brown | $49 million |
| Losses from drink brands Betty Buzz/Betty Booze | $22 million |
| Reputational harm (negative online impact) | $34 million |
Baldoni maintains those numbers are “exaggerated” and “lack credible proof.” He argues that claims for lost profits are “speculative, possible, or imaginary.”
Blake Lively originally filed the lawsuit in December 2024, accusing Baldoni of misconduct during production of It Ends With Us. Baldoni, who denies all allegations, later countersued for $400 million, though that defamation case was dismissed earlier this year.
The court will now review Baldoni’s motion to dismiss before the case proceeds to trial next year.
