Rapper Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, is facing a new lawsuit alleging he assaulted a man during an altercation at the historic Chateau Marmont, according to court documents.
The complaint, filed on March 13 and reviewed by media outlets including People magazine, accuses West of knocking a man unconscious with a single punch during an incident that allegedly took place on April 16, 2024.
According to the filing, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the hotel’s garden area. The plaintiff, identified only as John Doe, claims West approached him before the situation escalated suddenly.
“Without warning, [West] punched [him] in the face,” the complaint alleges, stating that the force of the blow caused the man to fall, strike his head and lose consciousness.
The lawsuit further claims that West continued to strike the man while he was on the ground. The plaintiff asserts he did not provoke the altercation and later accused the rapper of making false statements about his conduct following the incident.
The legal action seeks damages for battery and emotional distress, adding to a series of controversies surrounding the artist in recent years.
Representatives for West have not immediately responded to requests for comment.
The Chateau Marmont, a well-known Hollywood landmark, has long been associated with celebrity clientele and high-profile incidents.
Legal analysts say the case could proceed through civil court in California, depending on evidence presented and potential settlement discussions.
