Karachi is set to experience a sharper cold spell in the coming days, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning that night-time temperatures in the city could fall into single digits over the weekend.
According to a PMD spokesperson, the minimum temperature in Karachi may dip to around 9°C during the night between Saturday and Sunday, marking one of the coldest spells of the season. From Thursday onward, night-time temperatures are expected to remain between 10°C and 11°C, before declining further as the weekend approaches.
The Met Office noted that persistent north-easterly winds are intensifying the cold conditions across Karachi and adjoining areas. These winds are likely to make temperatures feel even lower, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours.
Despite the chilly outlook, the PMD has ruled out any rainfall in Karachi and other parts of Sindh for the next 10 days. Dry weather is expected to prevail across the province, offering no respite from the cold nights. Daytime conditions, however, are likely to remain relatively pleasant.
The spokesperson also revealed that a western weather system may affect the upper regions of the country around January 18 or 19. However, it is still uncertain whether this system will influence weather conditions in Sindh. The PMD said a clearer forecast regarding possible rain in the province will be issued closer to the date.
Authorities have advised residents, especially children, the old-age, and individuals with health concerns, to take precautionary measures as temperatures continue to drop. Citizens are urged to stay warm during night and early morning hours as Karachi enters a colder phase.
