Karachi, January 23, 2026 – The coastal metropolis of Karachi experienced a sharp drop in temperature on Thursday night, hitting a low of 7°C after a brief spell of rain swept across the city. The unusual chill followed rainfall in several areas, leaving the city cold and misty.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the lowest temperature was recorded at Bin Qasim (7.4°C), followed by Mauripur (8.5°C). The city’s overall minimum temperature stood at 10.5°C, with a “feels like” temperature of 4°C, while daytime highs are expected to reach 22°C. Humidity levels were recorded at 36%, and PMD forecasts dry conditions over the next 24 hours, although cold nights are expected to continue.
Other areas recorded chilly readings as well: Sharea Faisal at 11.5°C, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Jinnah Terminal at 10.5°C. The cold wave was more intense in Balochistan, with Quetta dropping to -9°C (feels like -14°C) and Chaman at -6°C (feels like -12°C).
The ongoing cold is linked to a westerly weather system affecting Sindh, bringing rain, strong winds, and gusty conditions. Authorities warn that Karachi, Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, and Badin may experience light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and dust-laden winds until Sunday.
Earlier on Thursday, winter rain first hit Surjani Town, Musharraf Colony, and Hub, then spread to North Karachi, Malir, Ahsanabad, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar, with light drizzles reported in PECHS. Meteorologists predict further showers and cold winds to intensify the chill across the city over the weekend.
