The Karachi Interbank Offered Rate (KIBOR) is a key benchmark used by banks and financial institutions for lending and borrowing activities in the money market. It also serves as a reference rate for corporate loans, consumer financing, and various other financial products in Pakistan.
Analysts said that KIBOR movements generally reflect the liquidity conditions in the banking system and the direction of the monetary policy announced by the State Bank of Pakistan. Higher KIBOR rates indicate elevated borrowing costs for businesses and consumers, while stable rates are considered supportive for economic activity.
Market participants closely monitor changes in KIBOR as they have a direct impact on financing expenses, investment decisions, and overall business confidence in the country. The latest rates suggest that the market continues to align with the central bank’s tight monetary policy stance aimed at controlling inflationary pressures and stabilizing the external account position.
