Lahore – In a gripping encounter of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11, the Karachi Kings defeated the Quetta Gladiators by 14 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium, thanks to a brilliant all-round display led by Moeen Ali and a fiery bowling spell from Hasan Ali.
Moeen Ali Powers Karachi to Competitive Total
After being asked to bat first, Karachi Kings posted a challenging 181/7 in 20 overs. The innings, however, began on a disappointing note when opener Muhammad Waseem was dismissed for a three-ball duck, leaving Karachi under early pressure.
Captain David Warner and Salman Ali Agha steadied the innings with a crucial 41-run partnership. Agha’s aggressive 22 off 10 balls set the tempo before he was dismissed by Ahmed Daniyal, who later proved to be the pick of the bowlers for Quetta.
Warner anchored the innings with a composed 35 off 22 deliveries, but wickets at regular intervals prevented Karachi from accelerating freely. At one stage, the Kings were struggling at 100/4, raising concerns of a below-par total.
The momentum shifted dramatically in the final overs when Moeen Ali unleashed a powerful counterattack. His unbeaten 48 off 29 balls, featuring four boundaries and three sixes, lifted Karachi to a strong finish. His late partnership with Khushdil Shah proved decisive in setting up the match.
Quetta’s Strong Start Falls Short
Chasing 182, the Quetta Gladiators got off to a blazing start. Openers Shamyl Hussain and captain Saud Shakeel dominated the powerplay with a rapid 79-run partnership in just seven overs.
Hussain was the aggressor, smashing 52 off 24 balls, putting Karachi on the back foot early in the chase. However, his dismissal triggered a collapse as Karachi clawed their way back into the contest.
Spinners Salman Ali Agha and Adam Zampa struck at crucial moments, removing key batters including Hussain and Shakeel. The middle order struggled to maintain the required run rate as wickets continued to fall.
Hasan Ali Seals the Victory
The defining moment came from Hasan Ali, who produced a match-winning spell of 4 for 27. In a sensational penultimate over, he dismissed Tom Curran, Ahmed Daniyal, and Hasan Nawaz, effectively ending Quetta’s hopes.
Despite a late effort from *Ben McDermott (25)**, Quetta finished at 167/7, falling short of the target.
