Islamabad, July 17, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast monsoon showers for Karachi on Friday, July 18, 2025, bringing relief from the prevailing heat and humidity.
According to the latest advisory issued by the PMD, Karachi, the country’s commercial and economic hub, is likely to be among several Sindh districts to experience rain-wind/thundershower under the ongoing monsoon weather system.
The PMD stated that partly cloudy weather is expected across most of Sindh, with the possibility of rain and thunderstorms in districts such as Ghotki, Sukkur, Sanghar, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin, Sajawal, Karachi, Thatta, Mirpur Khas, Matiari, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, and Nowshero Feroze. The department also warned that isolated heavy monsoon showers may occur during this period, potentially causing temporary urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi.
For Thursday night, hot and very humid conditions are expected in most districts of the province. However, scattered rain-wind/thundershower may develop over Umerkot, Tharparkar, Mithi, Sanghar, Ghotki, Dadu, Hyderabad, and surrounding areas as the monsoon currents begin to penetrate the region.
At the national level, the PMD explained that a low-pressure area lies over northern Balochistan with a trough extending northeastward. A westerly wave is also present over upper parts of the country. Under this influence, light to moderate monsoon currents are penetrating the upper regions and are expected to continue for the next 12 to 18 hours.
Friday Outlook
The weather for Friday is forecast to remain hot and very humid across most of the country. However, rain-wind/thundershower is likely at isolated locations in Kashmir, northeast Punjab, Potohar region, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Southern regions including Sindh – particularly Karachi and its coastal belt – may experience evening or nighttime monsoon activity.
Past 24 Hours Weather Summary
Widespread rain-wind/thundershowers were recorded in Islamabad, Punjab, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Several areas in northeast Punjab and the Potohar region experienced heavy to very heavy downpours. Meanwhile, hot and humid weather prevailed in southern and central parts of the country, including Karachi, where residents continue to await the full onset of the monsoon season.
The PMD has advised residents of Karachi to remain alert to changing weather conditions and possible disruptions caused by monsoon downpours over the coming days.
