Islamabad, July 11, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting rain for various parts of Sindh, including Karachi, on Friday, July 12, 2024.
According to the PMD’s bulletin for July 12, 2024, most districts of Sindh are expected to experience primarily hot and humid conditions during the day. However, the evening and night may bring partly cloudy skies accompanied by rain in Tharparker, Mithi, Umerkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, and Karachi.
The PMD also anticipates rain, wind, and thundershowers in several other regions of Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, northeast Balochistan, and southeast Sindh. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely during this period. Meanwhile, the rest of the country is expected to experience hot and humid weather.
Explaining the synoptic situation, the PMD highlighted the penetration of monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea into upper and central parts of Pakistan. Additionally, a trough of westerly wave is projected to affect the upper regions of the country starting from tonight.
Yesterday’s weather report from July 11, 2024, indicated hot and humid weather prevailing across most parts of Pakistan. Rain, wind, and thundershowers were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and northeast Balochistan during the evening and night hours. Isolated heavy rainfall occurred in some places during this period.
Over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall was recorded in various parts of Punjab, with Islamabad seeing substantial amounts at Saidpur (45mm), Zero Point (39mm), and Golra (22mm). Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and several other cities also reported varying levels of precipitation. In Kashmir, Rawalakot recorded 9mm of rainfall, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balakot received 5mm.
The highest maximum temperatures recorded yesterday were exceptionally high, with Jacobabad topping at 47°C, followed closely by Sibbi, Nokkundi, and Dalbandin at 46°C.
The PMD advises residents in the affected regions to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during rainfall, particularly in areas prone to flooding and urban drainage issues.
For Karachi residents and those in other areas expecting rain, preparations for potential disruptions and benefits from the much-needed precipitation are advised as the weather pattern unfolds over the coming days.
