Karachi police receive directives ahead of new rain spell

Karachi, August 22, 2025 – The Karachi police have been placed on high alert following the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) forecast of heavy rainfall over the coming days.

Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, has directed all officers to remain fully prepared to handle possible emergencies.

According to the new directives, all field commanders must stay present in their respective zones throughout the rain spell. The traffic police have been instructed to maintain smooth traffic flow and provide alternative routes in areas where waterlogging could disrupt movement.

The Karachi police have also ordered patrol vehicles to be equipped with essential tools, towing ropes, and emergency gear to assist vehicles stranded in rainwater. Close coordination with the city administration will be maintained to ensure timely response and public assistance.

Residents have been urged to avoid electric poles, wires, trees, and signboards during the rains. For emergencies, citizens can contact the Police Helpline at 15, while traffic updates and guidance are available at 1915.

A spokesperson for Karachi police emphasized that all available resources will be used to ensure the safety and convenience of the public during the wet spell.
