The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced 24- hour gas shutdown in several areas of Karachi, scheduled to take place on Sunday. This interruption is part of ongoing development work involving the connection of a new 31-kilometer gas pipeline to the existing system.
According to SSGC’s announcement, the gas supply will be halted from 5 AM. on Sunday to 5 AM on Monday. The areas impacted by this shutdown include Surjani Town, all sectors of North Karachi, Manghopir, Qasba Colony, Orangi Town, and all blocks of North Nazimabad.
Furthermore, the disruption will affect FB Area, Gulberg Town, Buffer Zone, SITE Industrial Area, Baldia Town, Maripur, Gulshan-e-Mamar, Ahsanabad, SITE Super Highway, and adjacent areas.
This outage is necessitated by the connection of a 24-inch diameter, 31-kilometer-long gas pipeline to the current infrastructure. SSGC officials have emphasized that this development work is crucial for enhancing the gas distribution system in the region.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to prepare for the shutdown by making necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the gas supply interruption.
The company has requested cooperation and understanding from the public during this period, as the work aims to improve the overall gas distribution network in the city.
The announcement comes amid ongoing issues of low gas pressure and nighttime gas load-shedding that have plagued nearly all areas of Karachi for many years. Residents have frequently expressed concerns over these problems, which have significantly impacted daily life and business operations in the city.
In response to these concerns, SSGC has undertaken several initiatives to upgrade and expand the gas distribution network. The current pipeline project is part of these efforts to address the longstanding issues of low pressure and supply interruptions.
The company has assured the public that the new pipeline will enhance the efficiency and reliability of the gas supply once it is fully integrated into the system.
While the temporary shutdown may cause inconvenience, it is hoped that the long-term benefits of improved gas distribution will outweigh the short-term disruption. SSGC is committed to completing the connection work as swiftly and efficiently as possible to minimize the impact on residents and businesses.
In the meantime, citizens are urged to stay informed about the situation through official updates from SSGC. The company will continue to communicate any changes or additional information regarding the shutdown and the progress of the pipeline connection project.
As Karachi continues to grow and develop, infrastructure upgrades like this are essential to meeting the increasing demand for energy. SSGC’s efforts to enhance the gas distribution network are crucial for supporting the city’s economic growth and improving the quality of life for its residents.
