KARACHI – The Sindh government has announced the closure of all public and private schools in Karachi on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as heavy monsoon rains continue to batter the provincial capital.

The decision, made by Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon, comes in light of severe urban flooding and growing concerns over student safety.

Large parts of the city remain inundated, with water levels reported as high as three feet in certain neighborhoods. Streets have turned into streams, and drainage systems are struggling to cope with the relentless downpour. The situation has paralyzed normal life, with thousands of commuters facing extraordinary delays.

Traffic flow in Karachi has been disrupted, leaving vehicles stranded and causing massive traffic jams on key arteries including Shahrah-e-Faisal, University Road, and M.A. Jinnah Road. School and college students found themselves stuck in long queues, with many struggling to return home safely as waterlogged roads created further obstacles.

The Sindh government, in coordination with the municipal authorities, has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution during the ongoing spell. Emergency teams have been deployed to clear blocked drains and assist citizens in flooded areas.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast additional showers for Karachi and other parts of Sindh in the coming days, raising concerns about prolonged disruptions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while emphasizing that public safety remains their highest priority.
