Karachi Sees Drop in Winter Temperatures in Coming Days

Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, December 30, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a significant dip in winter temperatures for Karachi over the next three days.

Karachi, the financial and commercial hub of Pakistan, is expected to experience chilly conditions as the minimum temperature may drop to 8°C. The PMD also cautioned that the “feels-like” temperature could fall even further due to wind chill effects.

Synoptic Situation

Continental air continues to dominate most regions of the country, resulting in colder conditions. Karachi’s weather pattern reflects these broader meteorological trends, with the city bracing for a pronounced drop in temperature.

Monday

Mainly cold and dry weather is forecasted for most parts of the country, including Karachi. Hilly areas are likely to remain very cold and partly cloudy. Moderate to dense fog is expected to persist in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during nighttime. While Karachi will escape the fog, the dry and cold conditions will dominate.

Tuesday

Tuesday’s forecast suggests similar weather patterns, with Karachi experiencing cold and dry conditions throughout the day. In hilly regions, frost is likely at isolated spots during early morning hours, particularly in Islamabad and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Karachi’s coastal belt will feel the chill more acutely as temperatures remain low, complemented by the absence of significant cloud cover. Dense fog will continue to affect Punjab and Sindh plains during morning and night hours.

Wednesday

The third day of the forecast maintains the outlook for Karachi, with continued cold and dry weather prevailing. The PMD advises Karachi residents to prepare for the cooler conditions, as nighttime temperatures could bring a heightened sense of chill. Other parts of the country, including northern hilly areas, will witness very cold and partly cloudy weather, with frost persisting in isolated locations.

Past 24-Hour Weather

The previous day’s weather remained cold and dry across most regions of Pakistan, including Karachi, which saw a slight dip in temperatures. Hilly areas experienced harsher conditions, with dense fog patches reported in Punjab and upper Sindh. The lowest recorded temperatures were in Leh (-13°C), Gupis (-10°C), and Skardu (-9°C).

As Karachi gears up for a colder spell, residents are urged to take necessary precautions to stay warm, especially during nighttime when the chill intensifies. Karachi’s unique coastal weather may not include frost or fog, but the wind chill will make the city feel distinctly wintry.
