Karachi to Face Sweltering Heatwave on October 1, 2023

Karachi, October 1, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a scorching hot weather warning for Karachi today, Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Karachiites are advised to brace themselves for a day of sweltering temperatures as the mercury is expected to soar between 40-42 degrees Celsius.

The met office has indicated that a high-pressure system will dominate the weather conditions in the city, resulting in a prolonged spell of hot and dry weather. Residents are urged to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated as the searing heat could pose health risks.

Across the country, the PMD’s weather outlook suggests predominantly dry weather for most regions, with the southern parts of Pakistan likely to experience hot conditions similar to Karachi. However, in the northern region, specifically in Gilgit Baltistan, there is a possibility of partly cloudy skies with the chance of rain, wind, and thunderstorms at isolated locations.

The synoptic situation reveals that continental air masses are prevailing over most parts of the country, contributing to the prevailing heatwave. While the majority of the country remains dry, some relief was seen as rain, wind, and thunderstorms occurred at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and Gilgit Baltistan.

Rainfall Records for October 1, 2023:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Drosh, Kalam 05 mm, Mirkhani 04 mm, Pattan, Malam Jabba 02 mm.

Today’s Recorded Highest Maximum Temperatures (°C):

Residents of Karachi are advised to take precautions to beat the heat, such as staying indoors during peak hours, using sunscreen, and drinking plenty of water. Additionally, authorities recommend checking on vulnerable individuals to ensure their well-being during this period of extreme heat.

The PMD continues to monitor weather conditions across the country and issues regular updates to keep the public informed and safe. Stay tuned for further weather developments and take necessary precautions to stay cool and comfortable during this hot spell.
