Karachi is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of drizzle, while heavy rain may trigger urban flooding and landslides in several northern areas.
KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of drizzle in Karachi during the next 24 hours.
According to the PMD weather outlook, mainly hot and humid conditions are expected across most districts of Sindh on Saturday, September 5, while partly cloudy weather with chances of drizzle is likely in lower districts, including Karachi.
Similar conditions are forecast for Sunday, September 6, with mainly hot and humid weather expected across most parts of the province and chances of drizzle in Karachi and other lower districts.
Rain expected in upper parts
The PMD said strong moist currents are penetrating the upper and central parts of the country, while a westerly wave is affecting the upper regions and is expected to persist until Sunday.
On Saturday, rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected in Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely during the morning.
On Sunday, rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected in Upper and Central Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir, with isolated heavy rainfall possible during the morning.
Hot and humid weather is expected to continue across the southern parts of the country.
Heavy rain warning issued
The weather department warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Sialkot.
Heavy rainfall could also trigger flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the Pothohar region, including Nullah Lai.
The PMD also warned of possible landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Rainfall recorded across several areas
During the past 24 hours, rain, wind and thunderstorms, including isolated heavy falls, were reported in parts of Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Attock recorded the highest rainfall in Punjab at 69mm, followed by Kasur with 32mm and Mandi Bahauddin with 20mm.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Cherat received 42mm, while Parachinar recorded 29mm.
In Balochistan, Zhob received 4mm of rain.
Meanwhile, the highest maximum temperature recorded during the previous day was 43°C in Bhakkar. Dadu and Sibi recorded maximum temperatures of 41°C.
The PMD forecast indicates that while Karachi may experience some relief from the heat through cloudy conditions and possible drizzle, hot and humid weather will continue across much of Sindh.
