KARACHI, February 7, 2026 – Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori on Saturday underscored Pakistan’s unwavering stance on national security, highlighted Karachi’s central role in the national economy, and called for urgent action to resolve the city’s longstanding civic and economic challenges.

Addressing the My Karachi Exhibition, the Governor condemned recent terrorism incidents in Islamabad and Balochistan, stating that Pakistan would respond to any aggression with the same resolve it had demonstrated in the past. He emphasized that the international community was increasingly aware of India-sponsored terrorism operating from Afghanistan and targeting Pakistan, asserting that hostile designs would never succeed against a resilient nation.

Turning to Karachi, Governor Tessori described the metropolis as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, contributing around 54 percent of national exports and nearly 67 percent of total tax revenues. He stressed that a city bearing such a significant economic burden must be prioritized in national development. Referring to deteriorating infrastructure, power outages, water and gas shortages, and recurring industrial fires, he said these issues were stark reminders that Karachi’s longstanding dues must be addressed.

The Governor praised the Sindh Government and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) for their transparent handling of compensation for traders affected by the Gul Plaza fire, noting that payments had already begun. He assured that concrete measures were being taken to prevent similar tragedies and revealed ongoing coordination with the Mayor of Karachi to improve city conditions.

On economic challenges, Governor Tessori said Pakistan’s IMF-related difficulties could not be resolved overnight but expressed confidence in gradual improvement through structural reforms, including initiatives under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). He added that following the defense of national interests, the leadership was now fully focused on economic revival.

Highlighting improved diplomatic engagement, particularly with the United States, the Governor said Pakistan’s rising international standing unsettled hostile elements. He reiterated zero tolerance for attacks on civilians and urged traders to directly report extortion demands, vowing strict action against such practices.

Chairman Businessmen Group (BMG) Zubair Motiwala said the My Karachi Exhibition aimed to project the city’s positive image as a peaceful, business-friendly, and vibrant hub. He also updated on progress in compensation for Gul Plaza affectees.

Vice Chairman BMG Jawed Bilwani and KCCI President Rehan Hanif lauded the Governor’s proactive role, urging continued support for critical projects such as the K-IV water supply scheme and the upgradation of the M-9 into a proper motorway.

The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to restoring Karachi’s rightful place as Pakistan’s economic, cultural, and commercial heart.
