Kate Winslet has addressed recent speculation about a sequel to the beloved 2006 rom-com The Holiday, confirming that no such plans have ever been discussed.

“Honestly, it’s never come up,” Winslet revealed in an interview with Deadline while promoting her new film, Lee. “I promise you.”

The buzz surrounding a potential sequel began when Winslet’s co-star Jude Law re-enacted his iconic “Mr. Napkin Head” moment during a lunch with Nancy Meyers, the writer and director of the original film. Meyers shared a clip of the moment on Instagram, igniting fan excitement and fueling rumors about a follow-up to the holiday favorite.

In The Holiday, Winslet starred as Iris, a book editor who swaps her cozy English cottage with Amanda, a Los Angeles-based movie trailer editor played by Cameron Diaz. The film follows their respective love stories, with Amanda falling for Iris’s brother Graham (played by Jude Law) and Iris finding a connection with Miles (portrayed by Jack Black).

Despite the fan enthusiasm, Winslet expressed surprise that a sequel had never been considered. “It’s the kind of film that probably would lend itself quite well to a sequel, but it has honestly never come up,” she admitted.

Jude Law shared a similar perspective in a separate interview with ComicBook.com, emphasizing that any sequel would depend entirely on Nancy Meyers. “That all lands in Nancy Meyers’ lap,” Law said. “She would only do it if it was a really robust idea.”

While there’s no follow-up currently in the works, the enduring charm of The Holiday continues to resonate with fans, keeping the possibility of a sequel alive in the collective imagination. For now, however, both Winslet and Law have firmly denied any discussions of revisiting the beloved romantic comedy.

The original film, cherished for its heartwarming narrative and festive spirit, remains a timeless holiday classic, with audiences still hoping that one day the characters’ stories might continue.
