Kate Winslet made a dazzling entrance at the world premiere of her directorial debut, Goodbye June, accompanied by her son and screenwriter Joe Anders.
The premiere took place on Wednesday, December 3, at The Curzon Mayfair in London, where the mother-son duo immediately stole the spotlight.
Winslet, 50, turned heads in a sleek black gown featuring a soft scooped neckline and a cinched belt that highlighted her elegant silhouette. Standing proudly beside her, 21-year-old Anders opted for a classic red-carpet look, wearing a refined black tuxedo paired with a crisp white shirt and polished dress shoes.
Goodbye June marks a major milestone for the Oscar-winning actress, who not only directed the Netflix drama but also stars in it — all while bringing to life a screenplay written entirely by her son. The film follows the story of fractured siblings who are forced to reunite under sudden, emotionally challenging circumstances, promising an intimate and character-driven experience.
Other cast members joining Winslet and Anders at the premiere included Andrea Riseborough, Toni Collette, and Timothy Spall, adding even more star power to the highly anticipated event.
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Winslet opened up about the deeply personal decision to direct her son’s first major script.
She revealed that although she initially planned only to produce and act in the film, she ultimately realized she couldn’t hand over the project to another director.
“When the screenplay was ready, I planned to produce it and play Julia,” she said. “We were looking for a director, but I suddenly couldn’t let it go. I told him, ‘I would love to direct it.’ When you give a script to a director, it becomes theirs — which is how it should be — but I didn’t want that for him.”
Winslet added that her goal was to keep Anders fully involved throughout the filmmaking process.
“I wanted him to experience seeing this beautiful thing he created come to life. He’s incredibly smart about film, and having him with me every day was just fantastic.”
With Goodbye June, Kate Winslet steps confidently into a new creative chapter — one enriched by collaboration, family, and heartfelt storytelling.
