KCCI Applauds Major Electricity Tariff Reduction for Industries

The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has enthusiastically welcomed the government’s decision to implement a significant reduction in electricity tariffs. This major step, announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, comes as a crucial relief for both industrial and domestic consumers, easing the financial strain caused by high energy costs.

The leadership of the Businessmen Group (BMG) and KCCI, including Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala, Vice Chairmen BMG Tahir Khaliq, Anjum Nisar, Mian Abrar Ahmed, Vice Chairman BMG & President KCCI Jawed Bilwani, Senior Vice President KCCI Zia ul Arfeen, and Vice President KCCI Faisal Khalil, lauded this initiative as a “historic intervention.” They noted that the reduction in electricity tariffs—by Rs7.59 per unit for industrial consumers and Rs7.41 per unit for domestic consumers—will not only bring much-needed relief but also stimulate economic activity.

KCCI highlighted that excessive electricity costs have long posed a significant challenge for businesses, particularly for Karachi’s industrial sector. The burden of high energy prices has hampered production, increased operational expenses, and reduced the competitiveness of Pakistani exports. The reduction in electricity tariffs, therefore, is expected to rejuvenate industrial output, foster economic growth, and create a more competitive business landscape.

Acknowledging the efforts behind this decision, the BMG and KCCI leadership commended the Taskforce on Energy Sector, Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Power Muhammad Ali for their role in securing this relief measure. Their commitment to addressing the concerns of the business community has been instrumental in shaping this outcome.

Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala emphasized that reducing electricity tariffs is a transformative step for Pakistan’s industrial sector. “High electricity costs have been a persistent hurdle, stifling business growth. This tariff cut will provide much-needed breathing space for industries to expand, innovate, and contribute to the economy,” he remarked.

KCCI President Jawed Bilwani echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of maintaining stability in electricity pricing. He urged the government to work closely with the business community to ensure long-term energy affordability. “This move is highly encouraging, but we must ensure that electricity tariffs remain competitive to sustain industrial momentum,” Bilwani stated.

As Pakistan continues to navigate economic challenges, the electricity tariff reduction stands as a vital measure in supporting businesses and alleviating financial pressure on consumers. The leadership of KCCI remains committed to working with the government to drive economic progress and sustain pro-business policies that enhance Pakistan’s global competitiveness.
