Karachi, September 23, 2025 – The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has strongly appealed to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the return filing deadline for Tax Year 2025.

In a formal letter to FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, KCCI requested that the last date for filing Income Tax Returns be moved from September 30 to October 31, 2025. The chamber also sought a one-month extension for the submission of Sales Tax Returns for August 2025, citing serious difficulties faced by taxpayers.

KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani highlighted that the IRIS portal continues to suffer from technical slowdowns and errors, especially during peak hours, which prevents smooth return filing. He noted that although the number of taxpayers has risen—a positive sign—the system has not been upgraded to meet the increased demand. This situation has left filers frustrated just days before the deadline.

The KCCI president also stressed that widespread floods and heavy monsoon rains have disrupted internet and telecom services nationwide. With poor 4G and 5G connectivity in several regions, many taxpayers are struggling to complete their online submissions.

Recalling past precedents, KCCI reminded FBR that deadline extensions had been granted under similar circumstances. Such measures, the chamber argued, not only provide relief to taxpayers but also promote compliance and ultimately enhance revenue collection.

Bilwani expressed optimism that the FBR chairman would consider this request seriously and grant the much-needed extension to October 31, 2025, in the interest of taxpayers and the national exchequer.
