British actress Keira Knightley has revealed that she rarely, if ever, watches her own films, including some of her most iconic roles. Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, the Pirates of the Caribbean star opened up about why she avoids watching her performances on screen.
“It’s funny because my relationship with a piece of work is obviously different from people viewing it,” said the 40-year-old actress. “It’s not a particularly lovely experience watching your own face back at you… It’s very strange.”
Knightley explained that while many fans rewatch her classic films, she either hasn’t seen them at all or has only watched them once. When asked if she’s seen Pirates of the Caribbean, the Atonement actress confessed, “I have never seen the third one. I saw the second one at the premiere, but never the third. There’s just too much face — really close up, large face… nobody needs to see that.”
The Black Doves actress further shared that she often forgets her roles because she doesn’t rewatch her films. “Quite a lot of people I know never watch their own work, and I’m more on that side,” she added.
Reflecting on her career, Knightley revealed that she has only seen Love Actually once — at its 2003 premiere. “I think I was eighteen… so over twenty years ago I saw Love Actually,” she recalled.
