Kia’s first-ever ute, the 2025 Kia Tasman, is already creating a buzz in the Australian market as leaked pricing details of its cab/chassis variants surface ahead of the official launch.
The highly anticipated dual-cab 4×4 cab/chassis models have appeared on vehicle pricing platform RedBook, revealing Kia’s strategic push to undercut industry stalwarts like the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger.
Set to hit Australian dealerships in August, the Kia Tasman S 4×4 dual-cab/chassis will start at $48,240 before on-road costs. This makes it $1750 cheaper than its dual-cab 4×4 pickup counterpart, which begins at $49,990, and significantly less expensive than direct rivals.
In fact, the Tasman S undercuts the Ford Ranger 4×4 Bi-Turbo XL dual-cab/chassis by a notable $3490 and the Toyota HiLux Workmate 4×4 dual-cab/chassis by $495. Kia is clearly aiming to position the Tasman as a price-competitive yet fully capable alternative in the crowded ute segment.
Speculation points to the upcoming Tasman SX 4×4 cab/chassis variant being priced around $52,740 before on-roads, again maintaining a pricing edge over similarly equipped Ford and Toyota offerings.
All Tasman models are powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 154kW and 440Nm, paired with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is rated at 7.6L/100km for the base S cab/chassis, making it efficient as well as powerful.
In terms of utility, the Tasman boasts a 3500kg braked towing capacity, a 6200kg Gross Combined Mass, a kerb weight of 2123kg, and a payload of 1127kg. Ground clearance stands at 206mm with 17-inch black steel wheels, enhancing off-road capability.
The cab/chassis variant is 5395mm long—slightly shorter than the pickup version—while retaining a wide stance and a 3270mm wheelbase.
Standard features on the S grade include LED daytime running lights, a synthetic leather-look steering wheel and gear knob, panoramic infotainment display, and under-seat storage in the second row.
Meanwhile, the broader Tasman lineup starts at $42,990 for the S 4×2 pickup, and goes up to $74,990 for the top-end X-Pro 4×4. Kia is also expected to unveil single-cab models later in 2025, signaling an aggressive expansion into the competitive Australian ute market.
